inspiration for decorating with pink
I can talk A LOT about finding inspiration when it comes to decorating rooms. In fact, I wrote a whole post on how to turn those Pinterest Mood Boards into an actual design plan.
So when my attention kept drifting to this gorgeous Pottery Barn inspired bed, I couldn’t resist.
I know, it’s a little “grown up” for a three year old.
But I was looking for something that could grow with my daughter. This mom is not about re-doing kids bedrooms every two years when they swap out their favorite Disney character.
Besides, we refer to it as my daughter’s “princess bed” (which she loves!) in an attempt to get her to sleep in it (which she won’t).
Still working on that part. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she’ll fall head over heels in love with her new room and magically decide to vacate mine.
A mom can dream right?!
Since I needed to find a way to balance out the boldness of the black metal framed bed, I knew a soft blush or pastel pink would be the perfect choice to accessorize the space.
girls room paint ideas
Ever since I painted our Master Bath in the most beautiful shade of white I knew I wanted to try it out in another space. The color, Simply White by Benjamin Moore would make the perfect backdrop to add in all of the girly accessories for my daughter.
I went ahead and painted the walls and trim in the same color but different paint sheens. Eggshell for the walls and satin finish for the door and trim.
It’s the most durable pairing I’ve found without being overly shiny and highlighting defects.
Pair that with the sophisticated look of black doors and you’ve got a modern touch on a traditional color palette.
Here’s a sneak peek of the paint colors together, along with the gorgeous antique dresser I refinished for my daughter.
Not to brag, okay maybe just a little, but that has to be the most perfect shade of blush pink I’ve ever seen! I had it color matched to some cute little wall flowers that will hang above the dresser.
Painting tip: If you’re ever struggling to find the perfect paint color and you have an object that you love the color of, then just take it into your local paint shop to have it matched to practically any line of paint.
light pink wallpaper
Let’s talk about this wallpaper for a minute. I have my heart set on creating a feature wall in my daughter’s room. And initially I was going to build it up with some gorgeous trim and molding detail.
But this wallpaper was a scroll stopper.
It has the perfect feminine touch with all of the floral detail, but not too childish since it has hints of black and gray in it.
So I think it has the chance to stand the test of time. Or at least hopefully until my daughter’s a teenager and can voice her own decorating onions.
I tried out peel and stick wallpaper last year in our glam powder room makeover. And let me tell you…that was not for the faint of heart.
This time around, the wallpaper I chose is actually a 4 piece mural that’s applied more like traditional wallpaper with a paste that makes it easy to maneuver.
Here’s to hoping though!
