It’s no secret that the best deals on seasonal décor can be found after the holidays.

While this tip may not be the most helpful if you’re just now starting to shop for décor, it certainly is the most budget-friendly if you’re willing to stock up on items to be used in the next upcoming year.

I stumbled upon this gorgeous Newton Plaid Table runner and matching napkins at Pottery Barn for an amazing deal right before Thanksgiving last year.

Sadly they arrived just after the holiday, but I knew I could put them to use this year.

It’s pretty rare for Holiday décor to really ever go “out of style” once it hits the clearance section.

In fact, my exact set is back in stock again this season. So make a plan to stock up during the post-holiday sales to save money on your Thanksgiving table décor.

Many of the items I used in our Thanksgiving table last year are being re-purposed again this season. Like these aged brass napkin rings.

We’re hosting our second annual Thanksgiving Dinner this year for my side of the family.

I really enjoy planning this special day and love nothing more than making our guests feel welcome in our home. Yes, that means pretty place settings and all the decorations.

But I learned quickly last year, just how expensive that can get so I was determined to save a little money on décor this year for our eight-person table.

The first thing I did was gather all of our dining room accessories into a giant pile.

I didn’t give any thought to the style, color or even season, if it was meant to go on a dining table, I grabbed it.

Including these summer hyacinth placemats.

Next, I walked through every room in my home and kept my eyes open for different pieces that I could reuse.

This is my absolute favorite way to save money on decorating or restyling a space in my home. It’s called shopping your home, and it’s not a new concept.

It involves taking inventory of different items around your house while looking for new and unique ways to purpose them in a different setting.

I share more about this tip in my post here.

In the end, I moved a lot of the pumpkin decorations that were scattered throughout the house into the dining room.

I especially loved this oversized carved wood pumpkin with a metallic handle.

It fits right in with the harvest plaid theme of the table linens and complemented these cute pewter salt and pepper shakers I picked up last year from Homegoods.

Add in Some Nature

Nature gives us all the free Thanksgiving décor we could ever ask for.

Before I even think about purchasing flowers or other table décor for Thanksgiving I just head outside into my own backyard.

Anything goes, from the pinecones falling off our trees to some freshly turned leaves clipped off of a bush.

I gathered up handfuls of miniature pinecones to use as a vase filler for our Thanksgiving table and I think it added the perfect rustic touch with the wood tones and plaid patterns.

What really caught my eye though, was the most beautiful shade of red leaves coming off the stems of a bush I almost overlooked. I’ll choose real foliage over faux any day, so these leaves were great free décor to fill my vase.

And while I didn’t find these feathers in my backyard, the nod to nature was a fun and unexpected little element to add into the décor this year. I love picking up unique floral stems from Hobby Lobby during their 50% off sales and found them earlier in the fall.

Look outside the Fall Season to save money on your thanksgiving Your Decor

Probably the most unexpected décor this year was the addition of what I think will continue to be a Thanksgiving tree tradition.

I’ve always wanted a small Christmas tree in our dining room, so when I found an amazing deal at Michaels last week, I couldn’t help but snag this one and incorporate it into our Thanksgiving dining room décor. It’s a little different, I know. But it’s really growing on me.

Since I opted for real stems for our Thanksgiving vase, I decided to use up all of my faux fall leaves and stems by placing them throughout the little tree for a fun fall look. Adding in gold and champagne ornaments played off the golden colors of fall and went nicely with a bed of pumpkin beneath the tree.

Think Neutral

It’s tempting to want to buy all of the matching seasonal dishes and stemware for the holiday.

But if you want to save money on your Thanksgiving décor, then consider purchasing neutral standard sets of these items to be mixed in and used for any season.

My favorite table décor stable is simple white bone china or porcelain plates that can easily be dressed up with different linens or placemats to add style and color.

You might also notice that I didn’t set out silverware or glasses for our Thanksgiving tablescape. And that’s simply because I didn’t have enough matching pieces.

That’s the funny thing about glassware, it tends to break. So invest in extra pieces to have on hand throughout the year. Something I’ll definitely be doing after the holidays.

Altogether, the only new items purchased for my Thanksgiving table this year was a set of new white plates. And that’s only because some of ours were recently broken.

I’m trying to make a conscious habit of keeping my eyes peeled during sales for décor that can be used for the next holiday.
